La lluvia que no cae

A "temporal" is a strong wind, usually  accompanied by rain, it rips everything in its path, stops people in its tracks, and if it lasts and gains strength it will become a tempest.

The work of Laura Elena Garduño is a reflection of the external world onto the inner self. An external phenomenon to the body, such as rain, is transported to the inner self as tears. The "temporal", the tempest, a crisis are not outside but within oneself.

In her most recent production , Elena generated a body of work in which she shows her grief and yearning trough a series of drawings and illustrations. Trough a lithographic process, using color pencils and limestone, she has portrayed soft rains, light and torrential. Rains that accost her trough day, night and dawn. The subject in question is in the repetition and agglomeration of silhouettes and strokes, in the colors that depict emotional states. In each piece there is an austerity of the diversity of shapes but not of the quantity of elements.

Trough the pieces of this exhibit, not only do we get close to the most intimate side of the artist, but we also get a glimpse at the historic influences of a person that feels. Two cultural references converge. First: the myth of Danae. Originated in Greek mythology and , where Danae ("The thisrsty")  locked up by her own father is then taken and impregnated by Zeus trough a golden rain within the confines of a secluded tower. In this myth Danae experiences her misfortune due to her own nature. Secondly: "The invisible dress of the queen", from a feminine perspective, is a  synthesis about the shape of waters that hides on the surface. An analogy where the drawings, the stencils, the illustrations seem to not be there.  The subtlety of the technique feels like a kind of deceit before our accelerated gaze. This pieces ask of the viewers an intimate approach.
